Overview
Emergency Medical Technicians provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergency patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transport to life threatening emergencies. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight.
Goal: “To prepare Emergency Medical Technicians who are capable in the basic cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to safely and effectively join the profession as entry level clinicians.”
The Emergency Medical Technician, Basic program combines classroom instruction with clinical “ride-time” experience. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to apply to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Examination to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Emergency Medical Technicians are an important link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.
